Security services at the Ministry of Interior have arrested a man in Minya on charges of defrauding citizens by posing as a bank customer service employee, obtaining their electronic payment card details and stealing their money.

Information and investigations by the Public Funds and Organized Crime Sector, in coordination with the ministry's relevant departments, confirmed that the suspect, who has a criminal record and lives within the jurisdiction of the Al-Idwa police station in Minya, contacted citizens, asked them to update their bank details and led them to believe he could help them obtain loans.

The suspect used these claims to obtain the victims' electronic payment card details, which allowed him to steal their money.

After legal procedures were completed, he was arrested in possession of two mobile phones, which on inspection were found to contain evidence confirming his criminal activity, along with 3 mobile SIM cards from different telecom operators.

When confronted, he admitted to the activity described and to committing 6 other offenses using the same method. Legal action has been taken.
