Finance Minister Ahmed Kouchouk said Egypt looks forward to continued efforts to strengthen its economic partnership with the European Union to support the country's fiscal and economic reform path. He noted that there are promising opportunities for European companies, allowing them to make their headquarters in Egypt a gateway for expansion across the region.

Speaking at a meeting with Annika Eriksgaard, Deputy Director-General for Economic and Financial Affairs at the European Commission, on the sidelines of the IMF and World Bank meetings in Bangkok, the minister said Egypt had taken balanced, proactive measures that helped it overcome many geopolitical challenges, bearing in mind that it operates within fiscal policies that drive economic growth, preserve fiscal discipline, lower debt ratios and support social protection.

Kouchouk explained that Egypt delivered a strong fiscal performance last fiscal year, driven by growth in tourism, telecommunications and IT, and manufacturing, and that it implemented packages of tax, real-estate and customs facilitation measures to encourage investment, production and exports.

The minister added that the government is working to lower the cost of financing by diversifying debt instruments, broadening the investor base and strengthening investor confidence in the Egyptian economy. He noted that expanding innovative and blended finance instruments limits risk and attracts more private investment.
