Banks operating in Egypt's banking sector are starting to offer a range of free banking services and products, led by free account opening with no minimum balance, to mark Global Money Week and World Savings Day from October 15 to October 31, 2026, under the auspices of the Central Bank of Egypt (CBE).

The financial inclusion events marking World Savings Day give citizens the opportunity to learn about banking services and benefit from a number of products with no account-opening fees or minimum balance, as well as the issuance of some cards and banking services. This supports the state's drive to expand the banking sector's customer base and strengthen financial literacy.

Key free services during the World Savings Day events

During the event period, citizens can benefit from a number of services, including:

  • Opening bank accounts with no account-opening fees and no minimum balance, depending on the products each bank offers.

  • Issuance of prepaid cards.

  • Issuance of debit cards, subject to the bank's terms.

  • Signing up for digital banking services, such as internet and mobile banking, at banks offering them as part of the events.

  • Issuance of e-wallets.

  • Learning about financing and savings products suited to customers' needs.

  • Taking part in financial awareness and education activities and seminars.

Banks are giving new customers the chance to open a bank account through easy, simplified procedures and to benefit from a range of banking services offered as part of the financial inclusion events.

Banks' participation in the World Savings Day events is part of efforts to promote financial inclusion and make banking services available to more citizens, especially in rural areas, while raising awareness of the importance of saving and the safe use of financial products and services.

Growth in financial inclusion rates

Egypt has seen a qualitative leap in financial inclusion rates in recent years, as confirmed by data in the Financial Stability Report issued by the Central Bank of Egypt in March 2025. The report pointed to a significant expansion in the number of citizens who hold bank accounts or use formal financial services.

This progress reflects the successful implementation of the National Financial Inclusion Strategy 2022–2025, which aims to boost the use of banking services, achieve greater economic empowerment for women and young people, and support the transition toward a cashless society.
