The Central Bank of Egypt (CBE) said tourism revenue rose 10.3% to about USD 18.4 billion in fiscal year 2025/2026, compared with about USD 16.7 billion in the previous fiscal year, reflecting the improved performance of the tourism sector and its growing contribution to the country's foreign currency resources.

CBE data also showed the balance of payments posting an overall surplus of about USD 2.8 billion in fiscal year 2025/2026, compared with an overall deficit of about USD 2.1 billion in the previous fiscal year, a positive sign of improvement in the Egyptian economy's transactions with the rest of the world.

The CBE said this performance was supported by a net inflow on the capital and financial account of about USD 23.2 billion in fiscal year 2025/2026, compared with about USD 10.2 billion in the previous fiscal year.

This came as foreign direct investment in Egypt recorded a net inflow of about USD 18 billion, while portfolio investment in Egypt recorded a net inflow of about USD 4.2 billion during the fiscal year.
