African Business magazine included Housing & Development Bank (HDB) in its list of the top 100 banks in Africa for 2026, based on the bank's financial statements for the year ended December 2025.
According to the figures shown in the ranking, the bank's core capital stood at USD 505 million, its assets at USD 5.104 billion and its profits at USD 392 million. The list gave a capital adequacy ratio of 10%, a return on assets of 8% and a return on equity of 78%.
HDB's inclusion is part of a presence of 20 Egyptian banks in this year's list. The magazine's report said the total core capital of the listed Egyptian banks reached about USD 31 billion, compared with about USD 22.6 billion in the previous ranking.
Across the continent, the total core capital of the 100 banks rose 23% to USD 155 billion, while their total assets grew 16% to USD 1.8 trillion. The magazine ranks the list by Tier 1 core capital, after converting financial data into US dollars to allow comparison between banks.
