The Central Bank of Egypt (CBE) has warned of fraudsters trying to obtain customers' personal and financial data by impersonating shipping and postal companies and contacting customers by phone or through fake links.
The CBE stressed that shipping and postal companies, like banks, do not ask for customer data over the phone, and warned against responding to any attempt to obtain data or lure customers into opening untrusted links.
The CBE urged customers not to be deceived by fraudsters seeking their data, whether through phone calls or fake links, stressing the importance of verifying the source of any message or request before sharing any information.
CBE tips to avoid fraud
Do not share personal or banking details over the phone.
Do not disclose card numbers, passwords or any confidential information.
Do not click on links sent from untrusted sources.
Verify the source of messages and links before entering any information.
Do not respond to any request to update your details through an untrusted link.
Contact the bank or company through its official channels if you have any doubt about whether a call or message is genuine.
The CBE's warning is part of its efforts to raise awareness of fraud risks and protect customers from the tactics fraudsters use to obtain personal and financial data.
