Underscoring the resilience of the national economy, Central Bank of Egypt (CBE) data showed the banking sector's net foreign assets rising to USD 31.2 billion in August 2026, the highest since January 2020, as follows:
Banks' net foreign assets rose to USD 12.4 billion in August 2026.
The CBE's net foreign assets rose to USD 18.8 billion in August 2026.
At the end of July 2026, the banking sector's net foreign assets had risen to about USD 28.418 billion, equivalent to EGP 1.454 trillion, compared with about USD 27.965 billion, equivalent to EGP 1.378 trillion, at the end of the preceding June.
Foreign assets rose by about EGP 207 billion in a single month. Meanwhile, the banking system's foreign liabilities rose to the equivalent of about EGP 3.691 trillion at the end of July 2026, compared with EGP 3.591 trillion at the end of the preceding June.
Net foreign assets represent the difference between foreign currency assets and liabilities, and a rise indicates an improvement in the banking sector's external financial position and growth in foreign assets relative to the corresponding liabilities.
