Security forces have arrested two people accused of defrauding a woman in Dakahlia by posing as a customer service employee at a telecom company and taking a sum of money from her under the pretext of suspending her mobile wallet.

The arrests followed a social media post in which a woman complained that she had been defrauded by someone claiming to work for a telecom company.

Following checks, the complainant was identified as a housewife living in the jurisdiction of the Sherbin police station in Dakahlia. When questioned, she said that a person had contacted her posing as a customer service employee and asked her to follow certain steps on her mobile phone, claiming this was to suspend her mobile wallet, which enabled him to take a sum of money.

Investigations identified and led to the arrest of the perpetrators, two unemployed men living in the jurisdiction of the El Edwa police station in Minya. They were found in possession of 6 mobile phones which, on inspection, contained evidence confirming their criminal activity, along with 16 SIM cards from various operators.

When confronted, they confessed to the crime, as well as to 6 other incidents carried out using the same method.

Legal measures were taken, and the Public Prosecution took over the investigation.
