Winter time in Egypt for 2026 is due to take effect from today, Thursday 29 October 2026. Under Law No. 24 of 2023, winter time returns by turning the clock back 60 minutes at the end of the last Thursday of October, so the new time applies from the morning of Friday 30 October 2026.
Bank hours after the switch to winter time 2026
Many people are asking about bank working hours after Egypt switches to winter time, which starts this coming Friday. The Central Bank of Egypt has not issued any new instructions changing bank working hours, so banks in Egypt will keep their usual hours: Sunday to Thursday every week, from 8:30 am to 3 pm. These are the approved official hours and do not change when the clocks change.
Bank working hours in 2026
Banks operating in Egypt's banking sector are open from 8:30 am to 3 pm, except on Fridays and Saturdays. The Central Bank of Egypt has set bank working hours from Sunday to Thursday each week, from 8:30 am to 3 pm for customers and from 8 am to 4 pm for staff, with Fridays and Saturdays off. The CBE has not changed any bank hours.
While bank branches in hotels and airports continue to operate 24 hours a day, including on official and weekly holidays and feast days, under CBE instructions and the banking sector's working arrangements banks are closed on Fridays and Saturdays, giving bank staff two days off a week in addition to other official holidays that may coincide with the weekend.
Banking system updates: banks operating in Egypt's banking sector will update their banking systems to winter time, and some services may be affected while the updates marking the end of summer time are carried out. Customers should therefore make sure their devices are set to the new time before making any banking transaction, especially transactions that require a one-time password (OTP).
