Remittances from Egyptians working abroad reached a record of about USD 33.9 billion from January to August 2026, compared with about USD 26.6 billion in the same period of 2025, an increase of USD 7.3 billion, according to Central Bank of Egypt (CBE) data.
The Cabinet's Information and Decision Support Center (IDSC) said the rise was supported by continued growth in monthly remittances, which reached about USD 4.2 billion in August 2026, compared with USD 3.5 billion in August 2025, an annual increase of 21.7%.
The centre explained that remittances from Egyptians abroad carry economic importance as one of the main sources of foreign currency. They support foreign-currency liquidity by increasing cash inflows into the Egyptian economy, strengthen the banking sector's resources as transfers are received through official banking channels, and support the balance of payments as one of the external inflows that provide foreign-currency resources.
They also strengthen households' ability to spend and save by providing income to recipient families, supporting consumption and their ability to meet various needs.
The growth in remittances during the period under review reflects a continued rise in inflows from Egyptians abroad, reinforcing their importance among the Egyptian economy's sources of foreign currency, alongside exports, tourism and investment.
