We invite Qatari Diar to explore more investment opportunities in Egypt and benefit from promising investment regimes
Dr. Mohamed Farid Saleh, Minister of Investment and Foreign Trade, attended the opening of the investment zone of the Alam El Roum project, owned by Qatari Diar. Also present were Eng. Randa El-Menshawy, Minister of Housing, Utilities and Urban Communities; Counselor Sherif El-Shishtawy, head of the Cabinet's Advisory Board; Eng. Taleb Al-Adhba, vice chairman of Qatari Diar; Sheikh Jassim bin Hamad Al Thani, Qatar's ambassador to Egypt; and a number of officials and representatives of the relevant authorities. The opening is a step that strengthens the investment partnership between Egypt and Qatar.
Dr. Mohamed Farid stressed that investment zones are an effective tool for attracting domestic and foreign investment and localizing development by easing procedures and speeding up project delivery, creating direct and indirect jobs for surrounding communities, stimulating economic and service activity, and making the most of roads and infrastructure.
The minister highlighted the importance of simplifying procedures and digitizing services so investors can track their applications, licenses and approvals online, enhancing transparency and the efficiency of government services. He confirmed continued coordination with the Ministry of Housing and other relevant authorities to expand public and private investment zones and free zones.
He said the private sector's share of total investment in Egypt rose to about 65% in the third quarter of fiscal year 2025/2026, compared with 40% to 45%, noting that the private sector employs more than 70% of the workforce.
He added that Egypt has diverse strengths for attracting foreign direct investment in the real estate, productive and industrial sectors, including fertilizers, building materials and construction, noting that foreign direct investment inflows reached about USD 18 billion by the end of fiscal year 2026, and that he expects them to keep growing.
The minister stressed that achieving growth rates of 5.5% to 6.5% in the coming years requires raising the investment rate to about 25% of GDP, supporting a wider production base and job creation.
The minister praised the cooperation of all state bodies, led by the Cabinet's Advisory Board, the Ministry of Housing and its affiliated agencies, the General Authority for Investment and Free Zones (GAFI) and all parties involved in the project, commending their efforts in finalizing the Alam El Roum project agreement.
Dr. Farid invited Qatari Diar to explore the diverse investment opportunities in the Egyptian market, as well as investment regimes that offer a range of incentives.
