The latest Global Finance assessment of the world's most stable financial institutions, published every year, shows that National Bank of Egypt (NBE) has kept its position as the safest bank in Egypt for 2026. The annual ratings by the US-based Global Finance magazine for 2026 covered banks in 114 countries, territories and regions worldwide, reinforcing NBE's standing as one of the leading banking institutions in the region.

The ranking is part of the magazine's 35th annual assessment of the world's safest banks, which includes more than 100 banks, the top 50 commercial banks and 50 banks in emerging markets, as well as lists of Islamic financial institutions and of the safest banks by geographic region.

Mohamed El-Etreby, CEO of National Bank of Egypt, expressed his pride in the bank's ranking at the top of the safest-banks list in Egypt, particularly amid mounting economic challenges and volatility in global markets. He stressed that the stability of banks and their ability to withstand crises are crucial to keeping global trade going.

El-Etreby said the ranking is based on numerous reports from global credit rating agencies such as Fitch, Moody's and Standard & Poor's, which assess the performance of the world's largest banks. This, he said, reflects the bank's ability to comply with international technical and legal standards, helping to preserve the strength of its assets and the stability of its performance.

The ranking also boosts confidence in the bank's performance and stability, and in the growth rates it achieves, while it keeps safety standards at the top of its priorities. This in turn encourages financial institutions to strengthen their partnerships with the bank and build long-term relationships for greater success at the local, regional and global levels. The ranking also strengthens confidence in Egypt's financial climate and underlines the strength and stability of the Egyptian banking sector, especially in light of the continuing economic reform measures taken by the state and the Central Bank of Egypt (CBE).

Global Finance bases its annual rankings on the long-term foreign-currency credit ratings of the world's 1000 largest banks issued by the international rating agencies Moody's, Standard & Poor's and Fitch, providing a basis for assessing banks' financial strength and their ability to maintain stability and withstand risks.

For more than three decades, the Global Finance safest-banks ranking has served as an annual benchmark for assessing the soundness of banking institutions. The full results include regional lists covering Africa, Asia, Australia and New Zealand, Central and Eastern Europe, Latin America, the Middle East, North America and Western Europe.
