National Bank of Egypt (NBE)'s syndicated loans business closed the third quarter of 2026 with outstanding results, according to the syndicated loan league tables compiled by global firm Bloomberg. The rankings placed NBE first in the Egyptian banking market for its roles as facility agent, mandated lead arranger, bookrunner and documentation bank.

The results also ranked NBE first as bookrunner and documentation bank, second as mandated lead arranger and third as facility agent across Africa. In the Middle East and North Africa region, the bank ranked first as documentation bank, fourth as facility agent and bookrunner, and seventh as mandated lead arranger. The bank managed 29 financing deals, 20 of them as facility agent, with a total value of EGP 262.9 billion through the third quarter of 2026.

Commenting on the bank's continued hold on these leading positions, NBE CEO Mohamed El-Etreby said the rankings amount to a testimony, from a specialized international institution of great weight and credibility, to the bank's leadership in syndicated loans in Egypt, Africa and the Middle East. He said this success reflects the bank's ongoing commitment to meeting the financing needs of major projects by arranging, managing and marketing syndicated loan deals with high creditworthiness and strong economic viability. These deals add value to the Egyptian economy, drive development and support the state's plans to advance sectors such as transport, education, petrochemicals, tourism, energy, real-estate development and building materials, food industries and agriculture. This, he said, contributes positively to the country's sustainable economic development, the localization of industry and more job opportunities for young Egyptians, while reducing imports, raising exports, improving the trade balance and maximizing the economy's foreign-currency resources. He noted that this success came despite the major challenges Egypt and the world have faced recently and their consequences for the Egyptian and global economies.

NBE Deputy CEO Soha El-Turky expressed her pride in the bank's continued distinction in one of its key business lines. She said the bank gives syndicated loan deals exceptional attention, drawing on its strong and growing network of relationships with local banks and regional and international financial institutions that trust NBE's ability to close and manage major deals with a high level of professionalism. It also relies on a large capital base that allows it to provide the various types of financing major projects need, in line with clients' different requirements and the nature of each project's economic activity. She said the results are an incentive for staff to work even harder to maintain this position and to make NBE the first choice for syndicated loan clients among local and foreign investors, including private-sector companies, reinforcing the bank's leading position as the largest bank operating in Egypt.

Sherif Riad, NBE's Chief Executive of Large Corporates and Syndicated Loans, said this success demonstrates the bank's professionalism and its ability to arrange and manage syndicated loans across sectors, to foster productive cooperation among all banks operating in Egypt, and to provide liquidity to various economic sectors, while also reflecting the resilience of the banking sector. It also reflects the efforts of the bank's specialists and teams, who closed 29 deals across several economic sectors through diverse, integrated financing solutions. These include 20 deals in which NBE acted as facility agent, representing 10.48% of all syndicated loan deals in Africa through the third quarter of 2026.

Ahmed El-Sersy, Head of Syndicated Loans at NBE, added that the bank's success in closing a large number of financing deals across sectors reflects the effectiveness of syndicated loans and their ability to meet clients' varied financing needs, through careful study of those needs and the design of the most suitable financing structure for each project. The bank has also acted as financial advisor on several strategic projects.
