Omar Radwan, chairman of the Egyptian Exchange (EGX), said Commercial International Bank – Egypt (CIB) serves as an ambassador for the Egyptian market and Egyptian stocks in global markets. He added that the bank's experience on the London Stock Exchange reflects the ability of Egyptian companies to establish an international presence and attract the interest of foreign investors.
Speaking in a media interview, Radwan said the bank's global depositary receipt programme, which has run for 30 years, has strengthened Egypt's presence in global markets. He noted that large daily trading volumes reflect sustained demand and investor interest, and support the bank's role in promoting the Egyptian Exchange and Egyptian companies abroad.
CIB's experience on the London Stock Exchange dates back to 1996, when it launched its global depositary receipts (GDRs) programme, becoming the first Egyptian company to offer its shares on international markets through such a programme. The programme allowed international investors to invest in the bank without dealing directly in the Egyptian market, helping to broaden its investor base and strengthen its global presence.
To mark three decades since the programme's launch, the Egyptian Exchange's historic headquarters in downtown Cairo hosted a bell-ringing ceremony on 14 July 2026, attended by leaders of the exchange and CIB, along with representatives of BNY Mellon and the London Stock Exchange Group, to celebrate this milestone for the bank and Egypt's capital market.
The London Stock Exchange also celebrated the 30th anniversary of the bank's listing last September, in the presence of Hisham Ezz Al-Arab. On 25 September 2026 it published a statement for the occasion, highlighting CIB's track record in attracting international investors, strengthening its presence in global capital markets, and its commitment to standards of transparency, governance and disclosure.
