National Bank of Egypt (NBE) announced it has signed a cooperation protocol with the Egyptian Clothing Bank Foundation to implement the "Dignity Clothing" project, which aims to provide suitable, healthy and eco-friendly clothing for women and children from the most vulnerable groups across the country. The move is part of the bank's efforts to support community development and improve the quality of life of the groups most in need of care.
The signing ceremony was attended by Dr. Maya Morsy, Minister of Social Solidarity; Ghada Tawfik, CBE Deputy Governor for Social Responsibility; Dr. Ghada Waly, chair of the board of trustees of the Egyptian Clothing Bank Foundation; Dina Abou Taleb, head of NBE's Marketing and Community Development Group; and Manal Saleh, CEO of the Egyptian Clothing Bank Foundation.
The "Dignity Clothing" project reflects the bank's belief that impactful community development starts with understanding citizens' basic needs and working to provide sustainable solutions to them, and that preserving human dignity and meeting basic living requirements are an integral part of comprehensive development. The project combines three main dimensions: supporting the groups most in need of care by promoting health, reducing the causes of school dropout, and protecting the environment. This makes it an integrated model of development projects that deliver social and environmental impact at the same time, as NBE continues to support effective partnerships with civil society organisations to carry out initiatives that can reach the largest number of beneficiaries and achieve lasting impact.
Dr. Maya Morsy praised NBE's national and community role in supporting sustainable development efforts, stressing that partnership with the banking sector is an important pillar for strengthening social protection programmes, widening the umbrella of support for the groups most in need of care, and supporting the economic empowerment of Egyptian families, with a positive impact on citizens' living standards and quality of life.
Dr. Ghada Waly expressed her appreciation for NBE's support of the foundation over the years, thanking the bank's community development team and stressing that belief in new and innovative ideas helps deliver a variety of initiatives that serve society. She also noted the foundation's commitment to recycling available resources and using them optimally to achieve the greatest possible benefit.
Dina Abou Taleb said the "Dignity Clothing" project is a different model of community project, as it addresses a basic need that touches the lives of women and children while also offering a practical solution to one of the environmental challenges linked to growing textile waste. She noted that providing suitable, healthy clothing to the most vulnerable groups is not only about meeting a material need, but also supports mental and physical health, helps children stay in school, and eases part of the economic burden on families. In addition, recycling nearly 30 tonnes of pre-consumer textile waste is an important part of the project. She stressed that NBE is committed to supporting initiatives that deliver integrated impact, bringing together people, the environment and sustainability, and turning available resources into solutions that serve society.
Manal Saleh expressed her appreciation for the partnership with NBE to implement the "Dignity Clothing" project, stressing that it aims to provide healthy and dignified underwear to the most vulnerable groups, ensuring beneficiaries receive basic necessities that affect their health and daily dignity. The partnership opens the way for the project to reach a larger number of beneficiaries across the country's governorates, while also making use of textile waste by recycling it into valuable products for community use, supporting the circular economy and delivering social and environmental benefits at once.
She affirmed that the partnership with NBE is an important step towards expanding the project's reach and maximising its impact, turning sustainability from a concept into a practical reality that benefits both citizens and the environment.
