African Business magazine has announced its list of the top 100 banks in Africa for 2026, based on their financial statements for the year ended December 2025.

The list included 20 banks operating in Egypt's banking sector, led by National Bank of Egypt (NBE), Commercial International Bank (CIB), Arab African International Bank (AAIB) and Banque du Caire.

The list also included Housing & Development Bank, Kuwait Finance House (KFH) Egypt, Suez Canal Bank, Abu Dhabi Islamic Bank – Egypt (ADIB Egypt) and Bank of Alexandria (alexbank).

The report highlighted Egyptian banks' progress in the ranking: the total core capital of the Egyptian banks on the list reached about USD 31 billion, compared with USD 22.6 billion the previous year. The list of Africa's top 100 banks included 20 Egyptian banks, with NBE, Banque Misr and CIB among the top 12.

The magazine ranks banks by the size of their Tier 1 core capital after converting it into US dollars. The report's methodology notes that exchange-rate changes and differing financial-statement dates may affect year-on-year comparisons of bank rankings.
