Commercial International Bank (CIB) Egypt rose to 12th place in the list of the top 100 banks in Africa for 2026, published by African Business magazine, from 17th place in last year's ranking, a climb of five places.
The ranking's data showed the bank's core capital reaching USD 3.129 billion, compared with about USD 1.91 billion in the previous list. CIB's assets stood at about USD 30.235 billion and its profits at USD 1.724 billion, according to the data listed for the financial year ended December 2025. The list also gave a capital adequacy ratio of 10%, a return on assets of 6% and a return on equity of 55%.
The report highlighted Egyptian banks' progress in the ranking: the total core capital of the Egyptian banks on the list reached about USD 31 billion, compared with USD 22.6 billion the previous year. The list of Africa's top 100 banks included 20 Egyptian banks, with National Bank of Egypt, Banque Misr and CIB among the top 12.
The magazine ranks banks by the size of their Tier 1 core capital after converting it into US dollars. The report's methodology notes that exchange-rate changes and differing financial-statement dates may affect year-on-year comparisons of bank rankings.
