The car loan portfolio at National Bank of Kuwait – Egypt (NBK Egypt) grew strongly in the first half of 2026, rising by about EGP 2.327 billion to EGP 4.208 billion at the end of June 2026, compared with EGP 1.881 billion at the end of December 2025 — growth of 124%.

The growth reflects the rising contribution of car loans to the bank's retail financing portfolio, alongside the expansion of its total retail loan portfolio, which rose to about EGP 31.726 billion at the end of June 2026 from EGP 25.357 billion at the end of December 2025. That is an increase of EGP 6.369 billion, or growth of about 25.1% over the comparison period.

Across the total loan portfolio, the bank's loan balances rose to about EGP 148.516 billion at the end of June 2026 from EGP 122.601 billion at the end of December 2025, an increase of EGP 25.915 billion, or growth of about 21.1%.

This shows that car loans grew faster than both the retail loan portfolio and the total loan portfolio, making them one of the main drivers of the bank's retail lending growth in the first half of the year.

Banky's view:

The strong growth in NBK Egypt's car loan portfolio reflects the bank's expansion in consumer finance and its growing focus on products tied to retail customers' needs, especially as the portfolio more than doubled in six months. Car loans growing faster than both the retail portfolio and total loans also points to the product's increasing importance within the bank's retail banking portfolio, and supports the diversification of the credit portfolio's growth drivers.
