Gold prices on the local market rose during October 2026, despite mixed movements over the course of the month. The price of a gram of 21-karat gold rose by about EGP 240, while the gold pound gained EGP 1,920, compared with their levels on 29 September. Globally, meanwhile, the ounce fell by about USD 152.
Price movements revealed several key milestones during the month. The first few days saw prices swing up and down before they turned higher in the second half of October, with 21-karat reaching its highest level in the available data at EGP 6,405 on 28 October, before slipping to EGP 6,370 the following day.
21-Karat Gains EGP 240 in a Month
The price of a gram of 21-karat gold, the most widely traded in the Egyptian market, rose from EGP 6,130 on 29 September 2026 to EGP 6,370 on 29 October, an increase of EGP 240, or about 3.9%.
Prices did not climb steadily, but saw successive falls and rises. 21-karat began October at EGP 6,150 on 1 October, rose to EGP 6,165 on 6 October, then fell to EGP 6,110 on 7 October — its lowest recorded level over the period according to the available data.
Gold then resumed its climb, reaching EGP 6,165 on 9 October and EGP 6,190 on 11 October, before easing slightly over the following days.
In the middle of the month, 21-karat kept moving higher, reaching EGP 6,240 on 15 October and EGP 6,275 on 17 October, before seeing limited declines between 18 and 25 October.
As the month drew to a close, the rise accelerated: the price reached EGP 6,340 on 26 October and EGP 6,390 on 27 October, hitting the highest level in the data at EGP 6,405 on 28 October, before losing EGP 35 in trading on 29 October to stand at EGP 6,370.
These movements show that gold's rise over the month was not continuous, but the result of successive waves of gains and declines, ending with the price settling above its end-of-September level.
Gains Extend to All Gold Karats
The price increase was not limited to 21-karat; it extended to all karats over the period from 29 September to 29 October 2026.
A gram of 24-karat gold rose from EGP 7,005 to EGP 7,280, an increase of EGP 275, while a gram of 18-karat gold climbed from EGP 5,255 to EGP 5,460, an increase of EGP 205.
A gram of 14-karat gold also rose from EGP 4,085 to EGP 4,245, a gain of EGP 160 over the same period.
These figures show increases in the prices of all the karats tracked, with the size of the gain in pounds varying according to the price of each karat.
Gold Pound Rises EGP 1,920
The gold pound was priced at about EGP 49,040 on 29 September, before rising to EGP 50,960 on 29 October, an increase of EGP 1,920, or nearly 3.9%.
The gold pound saw mixed movements during October. It stood at EGP 49,200 on 1 October, fell to EGP 48,880 on 7 October, then gradually climbed again over the following periods.
In mid-month, the gold pound reached EGP 49,920 on 15 October and rose to EGP 50,200 on 17 October, before easing slightly over the following days.
With the wave of gains on the local market at the end of the month, the gold pound rose to EGP 51,120 on 27 October and then hit its highest level in the available data at EGP 51,240 on 28 October, before falling back to EGP 50,960 on 29 October.
As a result, the cost of buying a gold pound rose by about EGP 1,920 compared with the end of September, despite the decline recorded on the last day of the comparison period.
Global Ounce Falls USD 152 in a Month
Globally, gold prices took a different path from the local market over the period tracked. The ounce fell from USD 4,181.30 on 29 September to USD 4,029.17 on 29 October, a decline of USD 152.13, or about 3.6%.
The ounce moved higher in the first half of October, rising from USD 4,177.11 on 1 October to USD 4,195.86 on 11 October, its highest level in the October data provided.
Global prices then turned lower amid continued daily volatility. The ounce stood at USD 4,170.14 on 15 October and USD 4,165.45 on 18 October, before dropping to USD 4,025.12 on 22 October.
The ounce hovered near USD 3,993 on 24 and 25 October, then climbed again to USD 4,068.51 on 28 October, before falling back to USD 4,029.17 on 29 October.
These movements show that the global ounce went through waves of gains and declines during the month, but ended the period below its end-of-September level — unlike local gold prices, which rose.
Why Did Local Gold Move Differently From Global Prices?
Although the global ounce fell by about 3.6% over the period, the price of a gram of 21-karat gold in the Egyptian market rose by about 3.9%, highlighting how local prices diverged from the yellow metal's global performance during this period.
The price of gold in Egypt is not determined by the dollar price of the ounce alone. Other factors also come into play, including the Egyptian pound's exchange rate against the US dollar, supply and demand on the local market, and trading costs and pricing margins.
A fall in the global price therefore does not necessarily mean local prices will fall by the same amount or at the same time, as the final outcome depends on the interplay of global and local factors.
October in Review: Gold Ends the Period Higher Locally
Comparing prices on 29 September and 29 October 2026 shows that a gram of 21-karat gold rose by about EGP 240, 24-karat by about EGP 275, 18-karat by about EGP 205 and 14-karat by about EGP 160, while the gold pound rose by about EGP 1,920.
By contrast, the global ounce fell by about USD 152.13 over the same period.
Local gold prices thus ended the tracking period above their end-of-September levels, after a month of clear price volatility and notable gains in its second half, while the global ounce declined compared with its levels at the start of the period.
