What happens to a pension loan upon death?

A death benefit loan does not automatically lapse upon the borrower's death.

The bank reviews the outstanding balance and any insurance policies associated with the loan.

If coverage is valid and applies, the debt may be settled according to its terms; otherwise, the obligations are addressed according to the loan agreement and the estate.

The heirs must first notify the bank and request information regarding the insurance policy and outstanding balance, rather than continuing or arbitrarily stopping payments.
