What should be checked before accepting a check?

Check the beneficiary's name, the amount (both numerals and words), the date, the visible signature, and ensure there are no erasures or alterations.

Also, check the bank's name.

Most importantly: a check does not guarantee sufficient funds on the date of presentation.
