A deposit is an amount of money locked at the bank for a set period of time in return for a fixed yield. It differs from a savings certificate in that its tenors are short (starting from one week) and it can be broken at any time, and it differs from a current account in that it pays a higher yield and cannot be drawn on with a card or cheques.
