Under Sharia rules, a cash loan must be a Qard Hasan (a benevolent loan) with no interest or profit at all, and Islamic banks in Egypt offer it only in very narrow cases and for emergencies (such as a marriage or medical treatment), in small amounts and without interest.
For large cash financing, the bank turns to the Tawarruq formula (buying goods in instalments and selling them for cash in the market on the customer's behalf), which is subject to strict Sharia conditions.
