When you compare certificates at the same amount, term and payout frequency, it is normal to find several paying exactly the same return, because many banks advertise the same rate for the same term and payout. Their order in any list is then only a display order, and does not mean the first is higher than the next. Choosing among them comes down to things other than the return: the break terms if you may need the money early, and when breaking is allowed; the minimum and its multiples, since part of your amount stays unplaced when the amount falls between multiples of the minimum; the rate type, fixed or variable and liable to change; automatic renewal and its cancellation window; and whether you can borrow against the certificate. If the return is variable, the tie is in the expected figure at today's rate and may diverge later. Decide which of these matters to you, compare the tied certificates on it, and check each one's key-facts statement for the break table, the minimum and the renewal terms.
