If your goal is a monthly income whose figure you know in advance, note first that 'certainty' comes in more than one shape. A fixed return is written into the contract for the whole term, but it does not change if market rates move. A variable return is tied to a Central Bank reference rate plus the bank's margin, so it changes after the payout period if the reference moves in either direction, and any figure you are given is an estimate at today's rate. A stepped return on a fixed-rate product has a schedule known from the start, but it is higher in year one and lower afterwards, so the monthly amount falls from year to year. A hypothetical example per 100 EGP: at a fixed 15% the monthly payout is 1.25 EGP throughout; on a stepped schedule of 18%, then 15%, then 12% it is 1.5, then 1.25, then 1 EGP. This is a difference of shape, not of quality; the choice depends on which one you are comfortable with. In the certificate's key-facts statement check the rate type, the reference rate and margin if variable, the year-by-year schedule if stepped, and the payout frequencies offered.
