Many savings products set conditions on who may buy them: individuals only, Egyptians and/or foreigners, an age band, or residence outside Egypt, as with products labelled 'for Egyptians abroad'. These conditions are in the product's terms, and the bank checks them against documents and confirms eligibility.

  • On age: the age of majority is 21. Since November 2024, banks may open accounts in their own names for people aged 15 to 21 without a guardian's approval, but with products the bank considers suited to their age. So a given product may have its own age limit.

  • On foreigners: the rules allow foreigners who do not live in Egypt to open bank accounts, subject to the account-opening and due-diligence rules.

Before you go, check the eligibility conditions in the product's terms or key-facts statement, ask the bank which documents are required, and ask specifically about any condition that is unclear.
