Our take 3.5

3.5 Banky rating

Pros

  • All Certificates are nominal. They may not be traded, endorsed, transferred, discounted, pledged to third parties or disposed of in any form with a view to transferring ownership.
  • Certificates can be issued by way of a gift or donation according to conditions to be signed in this respect.
  • Certificates and the relevant interests are exempted from all kinds of taxes and stamp duties.
  • The term of the Certificate is one year starting from the next business day following the purchase date. The Certificate is automatically renewed on maturity date unless it is redeemed or except as otherwise instructed.
  • Each Certificate yields a periodic monthly interest which is fixed throughout its term, as per the rate prevailing on the certificate issuance date. Interest is calculated as of the next business day following the purchase date and is paid on its due date.
  • Interest can be cashed via ATMs spread all over the country around the clock, 7 days a week.

Cons

  • The fixed annual return rate for the one-year certificate is 14%. Although this rate is superior to that of Certificate (A) in terms of payout frequency, it is considered low when compared to current inflation rates and other savings instruments available in the Egyptian market.

Our take

The "Type B" investment certificate is a highly suitable option in one specific scenario: if you are certain you will need the principal amount exactly one year from now and wish to utilize it to generate a temporary monthly return without the risk of locking it up for three years. However, if you do not mind committing your funds for a three-year period, opting for the bank's "Platinum" certificates would provide a stronger monthly return—one better equipped to withstand inflation and rising costs of living.

The 'B' investment certificate is a savings option that differs significantly from the 'A' certificate; it focuses on short terms and regular, periodic returns.
